Scolarhsip Opportunity: Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program

On behalf of the the U.S. Department of State, Fulbright offers all Emirati graduates a fully funded scholarship

Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program is a fully funded 10-month opportunity for early‐career educators, recent graduates and those with a strong interest in teaching to refine their teaching skills, increase their English language proficiency and extend their knowledge of the cultures and customs of the United States while strengthening the instruction of foreign languages at U.S. colleges and universities.The FLTA program supports UAE nationals who are interested in teaching the Arabic language and spreading awareness and appreciation for UAE heritage among U.S. undergraduate students. Applications are due on August 31 every year.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants should be in their final year at university, recent graduates, or early‐career educators
  • Applicants should have a strong interest in teaching
  • Applicants must be enthusiastic about teaching the Arabic language and UAE culture to U.S. students
  • Applicants must demonstrate leadership skills & independence
  • Applicants should have the ability to motivate Arabic language learners
  • Applicants should be fluent in English, with a TOEFL score no less than 550, a 79-80 TOEFL IBT score, or a 6.0 IELTS score.

The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Award provides an opportunity to post-doctoral scholars who are to begin a program of research or teaching at an accredited university, or a public or private, non-profit research institute in the United States. The scholar must hold a doctorate degree or equivalent professional qualification and will spend between three to ten months conducting research and/or teaching at a university in the United States. The application requires that the scholar develops a theoretically-sound, well-written, and feasible proposal that demonstrates a commitment to cross-cultural understanding and exchange. Applicants must arrange their own institutional affiliation. Applications are due on January 15 of every year.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must be UAE nationals and residing in UAE during the application process. Candidates who received a Fulbright Scholarship in the past are not eligible to apply
  • Applicants must be full-time academic faculty members of a UAE university (public or private) · PhD degree is required
  • Applicants must present a personal statement with their application (two-page maximum) and must arrange their own institutional affiliation
  • Fulbright candidates must meet the language requirements necessary for their proposed study, research, or teaching assignment. (English language proficiency is required - TOEFL or IELTS tests might be requested
  • Applicants must obtain three academic letters of references in English from their academic institution
  • Applicants must secure an affiliation letter from an American host institution
  • Candidates selected for the grant will be required to submit a Medical History and Examination Report before the grant can be activated

Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program is a fully funded ten-month professional development exchange program administered under the prestigious U.S. Fulbright Exchange umbrella. Experienced professionals who participate in this program complete a tailored combination of non-degree academic study leadership development, and collaboration with U.S. counterparts while broadening professional experiences that they aim to achieve. the Applications are due on August 31 of every year.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must possess an undergraduate degree.
  • Applicants must have completed a minimum of five years of full-time, professional experience
  • Applicants must have limited or no prior experience in the United States
  • Applicants must demonstrate leadership qualities
  • Applicants must possess a record of public service in the community
  • Applicants must demonstrate English language ability

During the application process, candidates select one program field that fits within their professional domain:
