Mental health satisfaction is one of the key performance indicators of the pillar of world-class healthcare of the UAE National Agenda. Therefore, the UAE Government is regularly undertaking new measures to address mental health issues and reduce the stigma associated with it. Zayed University is aligned with the UAE government’s initiatives for Emiratis and expatriates to have access to mental health services and support as set out by The National Policy for the Promotion of Mental Health.
The College of Natural and Health Sciences is launching the first Master of Science in Counselling Psychology in the UAE
Program Overview
The master’s degree program will provide you with the expertise, knowledge and skills to apply psychological theories and models to help adult populations with a range of psychological concerns from trauma to stress management and performance.
Furthermore, license-eligible graduates will have experience in psychological assessment, case formulation, research, and evidence-based intervention in the context of adult mental health to find job opportunities in different environments, i.e., government agencies, healthcare organizations, private practices, and research.
The course will be taught by faculty who hold PhDs from some of the world’s most prestigious universities. Our faculty members have built a stellar reputation for their groundbreaking research, published works, and their insights into an exceptionally wide range of psychological issues at both a national and international level. As faculty members are also highly qualified and trained psychologists, you will gain valuable insights from their expertise and experiences.
Curriculum Overview and Course Delivery Format
The Master of Science in Counselling Psychology is a 48 credit-hour program. Students will undertake four courses each semester (12 credits) for a total of four semesters. In addition to taught courses, students will complete two internships where they will shadow and be supervised by qualified Counselling or Clinical Psychologists in a workplace setting. Students will also conduct their own research and present and defend their master’s thesis.
The program will be taught face-to-face from Monday-Thursday at 17:00-20:00 on Zayed University’s Abu Dhabi campus.
