Master of Arts in Communication

Develop Strategic Skills in Public Relations or Tourism Communication

Communication has a long intellectual history that dates back to ancient Greece, where philosophers such as Aristotle and Plato taught rhetoric and public speaking. In the 2,000 years since the communication field originated, it has expanded to encompass many kinds of interaction, including organizational communication, interpersonal communication, health communication, visual communication (Wood, 2014).

The Master of Arts in Communication, which is locally approved by the UAE Ministry of Education and internationally accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, is delivered in English at Zayed University’s campuses in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The program offers two professionally oriented study options: Strategic Public Relations or Tourism and Cultural Communication. The study option in Strategic Public Relations provides students with communication skills, strategic thinking, and competencies to manage organizational aspects of strategic communication. Graduates are sought after in corporations, governmental entities, non-governmental organizations, and media organizations. The study option in Tourism and Cultural Communication provides students with extensive knowledge of the tourism sector and managing tourism activities. Tourism is a multidimensional, multifaceted activity, which touches many different economic sectors. Graduates seek career opportunities that include communication roles in tourism and hospitality, government departments and destination marketing organizations, and cultural attractions and facilities, such as museums, cultural heritage attractions, theme parks, and international events (e.g., EXPO 2020).

The key admission criteria include a four-year baccalaureate degree with a CGPA of 2.5 or higher from an accredited university recognized by the UAE Ministry of Education. Applicants must also demonstrate sufficient English proficiency to manage a challenging, fast-paced program. A minimum of two years of professional experience is recommended but not necessarily required.
